Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe | Onion Ring Topped
Who doesn’t love cheesesteak sliders? I’m not sure who, but I know that when I make these steak and cheese sliders, they disappear pretty fast. So, what makes these cheesesteak sliders so special? First of all, you can serve a crowd pretty quickly with this recipe. Whether you’re looking for an easy dinner to make or something to serve for entertaining, these cheesesteak sliders really satisfy. Also, the steak used is shaved so it’s very tender. And lastly, I top them with beer-battered onion rings.
How to Make Cheesesteak Sliders With Onion Rings
To make these cheesesteak sliders extra special, here are a few tips. Start with a good pre-sliced cheese like povalone or cheddar and get a 14-ounce package of shaved beef. The shaved beef cooks quickly and makes a tender slider. Keep in mind that one 14-ounce package will make nine sliders, and you will need to double the recipe to make more.
Also, for steak that is a bit tastier, I like to buy shaved rib-eye, which also comes in a 14-ounce package and costs about $2 more per pack but is worth it. To bring the flavor out of the shaved steak, I brown it with a bit of Worcestershire sauce, but that’s optional. For these cheesesteak sliders, I saute an onion in the pan with a bit of oil prior to adding the beef and browning it.
The next ingredient I use to make these cheesesteak sliders extra special is beer-battered frozen onion rings. They look yummy, but of course the taste is even better on these steak and cheese sliders. Again, this is optional, but people seem to love it. Lastly, just before these go into the oven, they are brushed with garlic butter, topped with an onion ring, then a bit more garlic butter.
Cooking tools to help prepare this cheesesteak sliders recipe are a fry pan, a baster brush, and a 9×9″ baking dish.

These cheesesteak sliders are next level delicious, topped with beer-battered onion rings and garlic butter, then baked till they are hot and melty.
Ingredients
1-small onion
1-TBS cooking oil
1-14-ounce package of shaved beef
1-TBS Worcestershire sauce
9-Hawaiian rolls
9 slices of cheese (Cheddar, Provolone or American)
9-Beer-battered frozen onion rings, slightly defrosted
2-TBS melted butter
1-TBS minced garlic
Salt and pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Take 9 frozen onion rings out of the freezer and defrost for about 20 minutes.
3. Add the oil and onions to the frying pan and sauté on medium heat, until the onions are tender.
4. Add the shredded beef and Worcestershire sauce to the same pan and cook for a few minutes, until browned.
5. Line a 9×9″ baking pan with foil and place 9 of the Hawaiian roll bottoms into the bottom of the foiled dish.
6. Layer the shredded beef and onions evenly over the rolls and top with 9 slices of cheese. It’s OK to overlap the cheese slices.
7. Next, layer the tops of the Hawaiian rolls over the cheese to complete each slider.
8. Place butter and minced garlic in a small glass dish and microwave for about 6 to 10 seconds or until butter is melted.
9. Using a pastry brush, brush the top of each slider roll with the garlic butter.
10. Add an onion ring to the top of each slider and brush the remaining garlic butter onto the onion ring.
11. Place the uncovered backing dish into the oven and bake for about 25 minutes.
12. Remove from oven, place cheesesteak sliders on a serving dish with a toothpick through the top of each one, and serve.
If you’re serving these onion-ring-topped cheesesteak sliders at a party, it’s nice to have a cocktail toothpick on the sliders to keep the onion ring in place.
Variations for Cheesesteak Sliders
You can make variations of cheesesteak sliders by adding mushrooms, green peppers, red roasted peppers or even bacon. You can also use a premade onion jam like this one by Davina and saute it right into the shaved steak for a bold flavor.
For a cheesesteak sliders dipping sauce, try mixing 1 tablespoon of horseradish into a 1/2 cup of sour cream. It goes really well with beef. Or, a garlic or chipolte aoili is another good shoice for sliders. Another way to vary your steak and cheese sliders is to heat up some pre-made French onion soup and serve your sliders as French dip sandwiches.
