Ingredients

Scale

1 cup butter, softened
+ 1 pat of butter to grease the dish
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
21-ounce can of cherry pie filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until smooth.
  3. Add in the vanilla extract and mix until it is incorporated.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Continue to mix, scraping the sides of the bowl, until the dough is crumbly.
  6. Grease the bottom and sides of a 9×9″ baking dish with a bit of butter.
Press about 2/3 of the dough into the 9×9″ baking dish until you have a flat layer.
  7. Next, add the cherry pie filling and spread it evenly over the dough layer
  8. Add the remaining dough by adding drops of dough over the top of the filling. Gently press the dough down, leaving spaces between the dough to create a crackled look.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden brown.
  10. Let it cool completely at room temperature before cutting and serving.
