Italian Sheet Pan Sausage and Peppers Recipe

Spread the love

Italian sheet pan sausage and peppers is a crowd-pleasing dish as well as an easy-to-make weeknight meal. Sausage and peppers is a traditional dish that Italians made popular in the USA. This dish consists of sausage, bell peppers, and onions.

Italian sausage with peppers has a touch of tomato sauce in it, which is how our family always made it. I personally like to add a bit of tomato sauce, as it adds more flavor and keeps the dish moist.

Of course, there are other add-ins you can put into this recipe like mushrooms and garlic cloves. Besides green and red bell peppers, can also mix in yellow and orange bell peppers for added color.

As for the sausage, using hot Italian sausage links gives this dish a lot of flavor. You can use sweet sausage as well, but the slightly hot one will give this dish a kick of spicy.

Sausage and Peppers Add-ins

  • You can use red, orange, and yellow peppers mixed in with the green peppers.
  • You can add garlic cloves, mushrooms, or caramelized onions.
  • You can put the sausage and peppers under a broiler for a few minutes to char it up.
  • You can use sweet sausage or even chicken sausage.
  • You can cook the sausage over an outdoor grill for a smoky, grilled flavor before mixing it with the peppers.
  • You can use ground sausage out of the casing and cook it crumbled up.
  • You can add tomato sauce with a splash of red wine.
  • And if you happen to end up with just a little bit leftovers, you can throw it over pasta and have it for lunch the next day.

Sheet Pan Sausage and Peppers

To make this dish, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and chop up the peppers and onion. Next, spread the chopped peppers, and onions onto one half of the the sheet pan and place the sausage links onto the other half of the pan.

Drizzle everything with olive, then sprinkle with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. If you’re using a very spicy hot sausage, skip using the pepper.

Cook this for 10 minutes, then remove the pan from the oven, flip the sausages, and toss the peppers and onions to ensure even cooking and place them back into the oven.

Cook this for another 5 minutes, then remove the sausages from the oven. Continue cooking the peppers and onions for another 12 to 15 minutes or until they look tender.

While the peppers and onions continue to cook, slice the sausages and set them aside in a bowl. When the peppers and onions are done, remove them from the oven and add them to the bowl of sliced sausage.

If you are using tomato sauce, microwave it for around 20 seconds and mix it into the bowl with the sausage and peppers. Serve while still warm with crispy bread or hard rolls.
